My attic is dusty and has a plethora of junk in it, but it's a fun place to hang out, learn about authors and listen to an occasional stupid story. If you don't mind the dust, I'd love to have you.
I am reposting this because I love this kid and he has only 43 hours left on his kickstarter campaign. Show him a little love or at least friend him on FB. Tell him Atty sent ya.
Please welcome to my attic someone who has traveled a long way to get here.
Who are you and where did you come from?
My name is Myles, I’m sixteen and I’m British.
For all my American friends out there, this means all answers from here on out need to be read with a British accent. Sorry, Myles go on.
Uh, okay. My parents enjoy traveling but rather than go on holiday for a couple of weeks each summer, they prefer to go to a new country and stay for a few years before packing everything up and moving on again. So far that’s given me the opportunity to live in the UK, Japan, Australia and Spain (where we are now) and I enjoy the freedom of going wherever we want and spending time in the place to really get to know it.
World traveler! Nice.
So obviously you’re a musician, what is the name of your album and where did you come up with the idea?
The provisional title is Spotty Teenager. I chose that because it’s the name of one of the songs on the album, but mainly because I hoped it would stand out and grab some attention on KickStarter. That was the theory at least… it’s not working so far!
Which of your songs do you like the most and why?
I don’t think I have an overall favorite because they’re all so completely different, but I tend to like the one I’m working on best, so my favorite song changes from day to day. Right now I’m working on a Latin beat for Scream, so that’s my current favorite. Next week it will be one of the others.
Which one do you hate the most and why?
Well I can’t say I hate it because I honestly like them all, but I suspect that some people may not enjoy Beautiful Suicide as much as some of the other songs because it’s a bit dark. Having said that, from a song-writing and performing point of view it’s possibly one of the ones I like best because it’s quite a haunting melody and it stays with you – it’s a great feeling when you find yourself humming one of your own songs in an unguarded moment, like a tune on the radio you just can’t get out of your head.
And we’ll all appreciate that for sure. Next question. You’re stranded on an island and you are granted three things;
An IPod with only one song loaded, what is it?
Message in a Bottle by The Police?
Rescue Me by Aretha Franklin?
Save Me by Queen?
A book with the last chapter missing, what is it and who wrote it?
Looking for Alaska by John Green – I enjoyed it right up until the point where she died but I lost interest after that, so you can keep the last chapter and almost the entire second half of the book.
And a lunchbox with a sandwich and a full thermos, yummy, what kind of sandwich and drink would you appreciate?
Just one sandwich? It doesn’t sound like I’m going to last too long on the island, does it? Better make it a worm sandwich and give me some soup in the thermos: I’ll drink the soup while I’m fishing, using the worms as bait.
What is the biggest mistake you have made in your life? Even if it happened in 3rd grade, I wanna know about it.
Not reading Desert Island Survival For Dummies when I had the chance.
Holy crap that’s hilarious! I guess that would be a huge mistake. Better get to reading.
What would you do for a Klondike bar?
Sadly I’ve never tried one – one of the downsides of being British I suppose. I’m not sure how it’s going to help me on the island though… wouldn’t it melt?
Not if you read Dessert Island Cookbook For Dummies.
Everyone needs friends, so who helped you on this project?
A family friend in the UK is an extremely talented session musician and producer who has worked with big names for decades. He looks like an accountant, but put a guitar in his hands and he will cast a spell on you: he’s going help me turn my simple piano/vocal ideas into something really special.
Obviously you want this to be successful, but what in your eyes do you consider success?
Success for me will be having the opportunity to record the songs: it’s frustrating to have written them but for other people not to be able to hear them the way I hear them in my head. It would be a HUGE bonus if they like them too of course. And if I’m allowed to dream, then I suppose hearing one of my songs on the radio… what a buzz that would be!

And last of all, favorite memory
As a little kid I was playing on a sandbar before I had learned to swim, just paddling in the shallows at a beach just outside Sydney. I was having loads of fun, but I wasn’t watching the water and suddenly a rogue wave took me off my feet, dragging me off the sandbar and under the water. It was terrifying. The noise of the water was tremendous and I was completely disoriented. I didn’t know which way was up and the waves were pounding me and spinning me around, so I couldn’t stand or reach for the surface.
Then, just as suddenly as I’d been swept away, I was thrown back onto the sandbar on all fours, gasping for breath and coughing up sea water.
That first breath – that’s my favorite memory.
That has got to be one of the coolest stories ever, glad you survived.
Anything else you would like to add?
I love long walks on the beach, cooking puppies and leaving commas out of sentences in strategic places.
Well we’ll leave you to your puppy baking, thank you for hopping the pond just to visit my attic.
Thank you, bye.
Please everyone go to his Kickstarter campaign and back him up.
Every dollar helps and we all know that we want to hear more from this kid.
