Atty's Attic

My attic is dusty and has a plethora of junk in it. I must say it's a fun place to hang out and look at what's rolling around in my head. If you don't mind the dust, I'd love to have you.

I loved this book! Chasing the Star Garden by Melanie Karsak

I just want to say right off the bat I loved this book. This was my first steampunk novel and I’m hooked!

The main character Lily Stargazer is an airship racer with a colorful lovelife and an addiction to opium. She’s fun, smart, reckless, flawed and I loved her from the start. The book opens with Lily in an airship race. This I was impressed with, Melanie describes everything to where you feel like you’re actually watching the race. After the race she’s given an artifact with a mystery attached and we’re given an adventure. We follow Lily as she travels across Europe and meets up with a few colorful and a few unsavory people who are after the same prize, but Lily’s artifact gives her the advantage and guides her. During this adventure Lily’s past keeps popping up which gives this character depth.

Melanie does such an excellent job of sucking the reader into the life of Lily while painting a wonderful steampunk European adventure that I am desperate to read more. Please, Melanie, tell me there’s more!

Atty many people seem to have bitten the teampunk bug with Chasing the Start garden on their first try…it is a wonderous journey that this book itself is going through and i am so happy that you had a terrific experience with it.
