Atty's Attic

My attic is dusty and has a plethora of junk in it. I must say it's a fun place to hang out and look at what's rolling around in my head. If you don't mind the dust, I'd love to have you.

Weekly Attic Clean-up

Weekly Attic Clean

Since I’m hosting guests every week I’ve had to make my attic a little bit more comfortable. I’m throwing out old newspapers and organizing photo albums. The family portrait we took when I was in eighth grade is going, hated that awkward stage. But I’m keeping the stuffed sloth, my favorite animal.

While I was cleaning up and making room I was thinking about all the good, the bad, and the ugly that happened this week and I decided to take some time to share with you all. But I’m not gonna say which is good, bad or ugly. I’ll let you decide, I’ll just present it like it was presented to me and you can take it or leave it. Kinda like the boxes of 80’s clothes up here, will I ever wear stirrups again? I think not.

First off for some this is good for others ugly. Banned books.

I can understand some choices if the books were presented to elementary school students as book report material, but to ban them? Captain Underpants got my boys to read, and it’s not like they wanted to run around in their skivvies because they were so deeply influenced.

Here is an article that will cause some Twihards to go for the jugular. This is an excellent piece on Stephen King and worth the read for this king of horror. And in all fairness to Stephen King, he didn’t call Twilight teenage porn, he agreed with a friend who said it. And he did read it, along with The Hunger Games, and 50 Shades.

So he does have first-hand opinions unlike reviewers in this next article by The Fiverr Report on Fake reviews.

This article upset me a great deal. I have read some of these author’s books. I know they deserve the 5 stars they were given. Where is the proof these reviews were paid for? John Locke may have admitted it, but what about the others? And to pay someone to review your book does not necessarily mean you will get a great review. Just read the Kirkus Reviews.

This article has been recirculating for a few months now and every time it does a few more names are added. It’s very, very sad.

For those of you who can’t afford or don’t feel ethically excited about paying for reviews, you’ll just have to promote the good old fashioned way. Or use these tips.

Say you used those tips. Say you make it big (without paying your way to the top) and you get a movie deal. Great right? Not always. Here’s an article about authors who hated the film adaptations of their books.

And to end on a fun note. Here ya go, 33 hilariously terrible novel sentences you need to read.

Hmm. Just clicked on a lot of these links – I must live in a cardboard box because I missed most of this first time around! Lol. Agree with your comment RE Captain Underpants – books should not be BANNED. You can put warnings on them so people know what to expect, but you shouldn’t ban them. They were written for a reason.

I completely agree. If we give warning labels like video games, TV shows, and movies, there should be no banning. You either order the right books for your library or you don’t.
